Controller

RMH Systems, one of the largest material handling, packaging, and industrial scale distributors in the Midwest, is currently seeking a motivated Controller for our Corporate office in Waukee, IA.

The main responsibility of this role is to oversee all accounting functions within RMH Systems. This position requires in-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and experience with risk management to ensure we comply with accounting regulations, maximize profits, and mitigate risks. This role requires strong communication skills as well as hands-on experience with general ledger accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, cash management, and risk assessment.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Implements, oversees, and reviews accounting processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of invoicing, billing, and cash postings.

• Handles cash management and banking transactions for the Company.

• Responsible for all tax filings for the states we operate in. Oversees sales tax for the states we do business in.

• Oversees and reviews payroll processing to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll. This includes calculating commission/bonus reports monthly.

• Identifies and recommends updates to accounting software, systems, and procedures.

• Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing accounting and financial procedures.
• Assist in preparing budgets by establishing parameters and timeframes; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data, and recommending the best course of action monthly to ensure financial performance.
• Oversee annual physical inventory and adjust ledger as needed.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and reports as needed, including for tax audit and tax preparation purposes.
• Assist with business insurance for the Company, including audit prep, annual renewal, and claims reporting/monitoring.
• Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
• Protect operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
• Assist with financial reporting for presentations, board meetings, KPI analysis, etc.

Requirements for the position:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field.

• CPA preferred.

• 5-7 years’ experience as a Controller, or in a similar role.

• Hands-on experience with general ledger accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, cash management, and risk assessment required.

• Ability to collaborate with customers, consultants, vendors, and engineers.

• Excellent communication skills and strong phone skills.

• Excellent organization and attention to detail.

• Efficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel. Strong knowledge of accounting software systems.

• SQL knowledge is a plus.

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles and GAAP.
